bici-almeria veterans trip to italy 2017!
every autumn as many as possible of our bici-almeria alumni get together either for a social event, or a ride somewhere convenient for as many as possible, this has previously been in st albans, at the ride of the falling leaves sportive - this year we went to banbury for a ride in the cotswolds. we also had a cracking evening at carluccios in reading. it may have been all the italian food, or the peroni red, but the group decided that in light of there being no trip in 2017, that we should all head to the dolomites in the summer. so that is what was decided. bici-almeria 2017 will relocate for one year only to northern italy. bring on the stelvio!

vuelta a espana 17
the 2017 edition of the vuelta will be racing across almeria at the end of august. a stage starting at lorca will finish a the top of calar alto having climbed velefique and col de ramal aka 'clip-clop' hill ....
the race will head south from lorca before heading onto 'our' roads through sorbas, tabernas and up to velefique, bacares, 'clip-clop' and the mountain top finish at the calar alto observatory.
funniest of all it is rated as a medium mountain stage on the website

after 2 years of bici-almeria being bassed at the wonderful casas rurales de tabernas I am delighted be able to announce that in 2018 we will be returning to our previous base - almond reef in cariatiz. we have also decided to revert to the april dates after trying a late may trip in 2016 which proved to be a little too warm for everyone!
this means that we will be able to ride the great climbs of the eastern filabres as well as venturing further east. i plan to check out a new ride up to the home of the indalo man (or at least the cave where the neolithic paintings are) velez rubio and the amazing ride up through santa maria de nieve.
of course returning to almond reef means that the trip in 2018 will be on a half board basis - it also means that riders will need to work extra hard to burn off all of di's amazing cooking ...
