bici-almeria is basically me, mark lyford .... with back up from a fiew significant others including my partner lisa
a long time bike rider using mtbs at first then discoverng the joys of the road bike a few years later i joined reading cycling club and began to ride in some of the earliest events in the sporttive phenomenon, including the polka dot challenge, ride of the falling leaves, autumn epic, circuit of the cotswolds and gran fondo cymru. subsequently i led the organisation of the inaugural reading cc sportive in 2007 - the kennet flyer which attracted 250+ riders to the west berkshire and wiltshire downs
so after many years of organising trips for small groups of friends i finally listened to their advice and have started up 'lyford tours' or bici-almeria as it is known
my knowledge of the province of almeria is extensive, first discovering the region on a holiday and coming back on a february bike tour in 2007 - in fact lisa and i loved it so much amongst the mountains, coast and desert we decided to buy a small house there, the 'bolt hole'! i have since ridden extensively in the sierras that surround our house and still get a real buzz from discovering small roads which are ofen not on maps. the excitement og sharing these rides and introducing the roads to others is the driving force behind bici-almeria
i currently run bici-almeria whilst teaching p e in a primary school in reading where i live with lisa
see you in almeria soon
mark
the little red man explained ..... introducing the indalo .... the ubiquitous symbol of the province of almeria. derived from a pre-historic cave painting in velez-rubio in the north of the province, the indalo now appears as a good luck symbol on houses, cars, gifts, you name it - even cycle kit!
