cycling almeria-style …

for your tour / training camp you will be based at a delightful, family-run hotel in one of the aldeas (small villages) that surround the market town of sorbas. from here we are ideally placed to explore the amazing, diverse geography that makes cycling almeria-style so exhillarating ....

great climate - sorbas is located at the eastern edge of the campo de tabernas – and therefore being an actual classified desert region, there isn't much rainfall and most winter days are like a good spring day in the uk. it's an ideal all year round location and perfect for winter and spring cycling.

great situation - sorbas is flanked by mountain ranges to the north and south – to the north is the imposing sierra de los filabres with many passes at well over 1500m. south of the town is the sierra alhamilla peaking at 1387m at colativi. Both ranges are criss-crossed with small rural roads, and as is the case in most of spain the surfaces are excellent and many newly re-laid. cross the alhamilla and the coast and the magnificent cabo de gato natural park is within reach...

great roads – most of the roads we ride on are minor roads – in fact almeria doesn’t have that many main roads. the campo de tabernas is served by the old main road from almeria city to murcia. within a few km of leaving sorbas you will have the roads almost to yourself. the sierras offer brilliant long steady climbing rather than hellish steep ramps, the climb to calar alto for example is 24km at an average of 5-6% ...

great rides – on your days in the saddle there will be plenty of opportunities to sample the local culture, cuisine and refreshments en route. your rides can be tailored to your requirements whether it be 50km a day or 150km a day, really hilly or flat, sierra or coast, it really is up to you. one thing is sure your experience in almeria will be a truly memorable one
